About

Unimation was the world's first industrial robotics company, founded to commercialize George Devol's programmable robotic arm patents. The company pioneered industrial automation with its PUMA (Programmable Universal Machine for Assembly) robots, which became widely adopted for automotive welding and assembly applications. Unimation established the foundation for the modern industrial robotics industry before being acquired by Westinghouse in 1983.
